The name of this print, "Ant Lore", came from a funny train of thought while tromping around the desert at The Lightning Field land art installation. In amongst tall steel poles were countless ant hills— some old and washed out, some new and active. I wondered what the ants thought of these strange structures in their landscape. Had they integrated the bases into some aspect of their underground structures? Had the lore of them being built many many many generations ago (in ant lives) made it into their folklore and oral history? What stories do they tell about the meaning and the provenance of these tall metal poles? How do the ants make sense of these interruptions in their home turf?
